First Game
by posted 07/07/2020

Okay, so our first game is tomorrow night at 6:00 pm at Van Voorst.  Please have your daughter there by no later than 5:30 p.m. for warm-ups.  Be sure to bring water.  Also, and I know that you're all fully-aware of the rules, but the League just sent out the following reminder:

It's been a long journey but we have finally made it to play games.

Thank you everyone for their patience and positive attitudes to get us to this point.

There are a few housekeeping items to make sure we follow the Restore Illinois Phase 4 Guidelines and to keep our families safe:

  • Players will not be allowed to use dugouts for games or practices.
  • Teams will use the bleachers as the dugouts, players must maintain social distancing while on the “bench”, bleachers.  The park district will be moving bleachers as close as possible to the fields
  • Parents are not allowed in the bleachers nor may they set up chairs around the bleachers.  Parents are to set chairs up down the outfield lines and must maintain social distancing.   Households may sit together, 6’ social distancing needs to take place between households.  Only 50 people are allowed with in a 30’ radius.
  • Sunflower seeds and gum and not allowed.  Spitting is not allowed.  Each player must have their own water, Gatorade etc.  Players should bring their own coolers, they should not run back and forth to parents to get their beverage nor should parents be bringing it to them.

Uniforms and Next Practice
by posted 07/03/2020

Hey folks, we had a really good practice this past week and I'm looking forward to this upcoming practice on Sunday.  I realize that it is a holiday weekend but we are definitely having practice, as we have our first game this upcoming Wednesday, and have a lot of ground to cover.  Hopefully everyone can make it, but if you can't I understand.  Please let me know beforehand if you cannot make it.

Also, good news, we finally got our uniforms.  The update (not necessarily "bad news") is that the league had an "ordering-issue" and we are now the Rockies instead of the Yankees (there is no Yankees team).  I plan to pass out the uniforms on Sunday at practice.  I'll need everyone to go home after practice and try-on the uniform.  If there is a problem and we need to swap-out the pants or jersey, it would be great if you could let me know even as early as Sunday night becuase our equipment exchange is 7:00-8:30 p.m. Sunday night (there is also a make-up on Tuesday night).  We'll coordinate getting to me any uniforms that need to be returned.

If you cannot be at practice on Sunday and want to stop by this evening or tomorrow to pick-up your daughter's uniform, that is fine.  Just shoot me a text as a heads-up (312) 502-2086.  My address is 602 S. Cedar Ave., Elmhurst.

Anyway, that's all for now.  Happy Fourth of July!

Clarification - Rules
by posted 06/27/2020

By way of clarification to my prior message, the mask I was referring to is a softball fielder's mask (which you can get at most sporting goods stores), not a COVID-19 mask (we will be practicing approprate socail distancing).

And, batting helmets need to also include a faskmask.

Thanks,

You should have all received a reminder about tomorrow's practice -- it'll be good to finally get started!   Our practice slot is every Sunday from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Van Voorst field (its located next to Jefferson grade school on Crescent Ave.).

Our first game is on Wed. July 8th, so we only have two practices before then.

You each should have also received a memo from the League about procedures for the conduct of games.  Below is the link in case you haven't read it yet:

COVID_phase_4_guidelines.pdf [files.leagueathletics.com]

Note that the memo states that each player are to have their own mit, helmet, and bat.  Obviously, each player should have her own mask as well.  If you have any questions about what type or size of bat to get, below is a link to a helpful guide:

https://www.justbats.com/buying-guides/softball-bats/fastpitch/

I'll go over these procedures with the girls tomorrow, as well as some general rules.  Here are a few that I wanted to pass along now:

1.  If your daughter is unable to make a game for any reason during, please let me know with as much notice as possible.  We have a full roster and I spend a fair amount of time before each game preparing the line-up and batting order.  Its hard to re-do the line-up at the game.  I certainly understand that last minute cancellations will happen too -- but do your best to let me know as soon as possible.

2.  The girls should wear a mask at all times during practice and games (if you don't have a mask by tomorrow, don't worry about it for now).  The game is much faster at this level and its a safety issue.  Travel teams and Middle School and High School teams all require masks as well.

3.  The girls should wear their full uniform, softball pants included, for games.  Pants are also recommend for practices as well, but not mandatory.  But, we will be practicng sliding during practices.
